Lovecraftian Metroidvania ‘The Last Case of Benedict Fox’ Announced [Trailer]

When you have the former head of Nintendo of America talking about your game on Twitter, you should take notice. That’s what Reggie Fils-Aimé did with developer Plot Twist’s upcoming Lovecraftian Metroidvania, The Last Case of Benedict Fox. The game was announced during the Summer Game Fest for the Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a Spring 2023 release.

Per publisher Rogue Games, The Last Case of Benedict Fox “immerses players in an atmospheric gothic world filled with exploration, puzzles, platforming, and intense combat”. The story takes place in 1925 Boston, where self-proclaimed detective Benedict Fox must uncover the fate of a family while traversing a dark, eerie world of emotions made manifest while battling the demon trapped inside his own body. You’ll be facing an occult order and demons in tactical and rewarding combat, exploring the realm of the arcane, and unravelling the disturbing secrets of a tragic family.

One of the game’s mechanics involves Fox’s bond with his demon allowing him to descend into the consciousness of a deceased person known as the world of Limbo in order to search for clues. However, as Fox discovers more clues, Limbo will shift and become progressively dangerous. The Last Case of Benedict Fox will also feature freeform combat, where players can use a combination of various objects, environmental surroundings, weapons, and traversal abilities in order to combat their foes.

Upcoming Narrative Horror Title ‘Still Wakes the Deep’ Getting PS5 Physical Version

Physical media fanatics can rejoice when it comes to The Chinese Room and publisher Secret Mode’s upcoming narrative horror game Still Wakes the Deep. Alongside the digital version of the game that’s set to launch on June 18 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, PlayStation owners will also be able to snag the physical version of Still Wakes the Deep on the same day.

Described as a welcome update for console players “whose greatest fear is the death of physical media,” the Still Wakes the Deep physical edition will be available from online and retail stores in North America and Europe. No word on if the Xbox Series will be getting the same treatment.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any additional goodies with the physical disc. But, given that this guarantees you’ll have a copy of Still Wakes the Deep that you can pop into your console and play without the need to download it again, that’s a small price to pay.

Still Wakes the Deep takes place in 1975, where disaster has struck the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland. You are one of the oil rig workers on the Beira D rig, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. And something has snuck on board, leaving you to not only restore function to the rig, but also deal with the unknowable horror.

And keep an eye out for the upcoming mini documentary on Still Wakes the Deep, which is scheduled to arrive around April 30th.
