“The Mercenaries” Mode Now Available for ‘Resident Evil 4′ [Trailer]

Just in case anyone missed it, Capcom has gifted Resident Evil 4 remake fans an early Easter treat with the release of “The Mercenaries” DLC today. Available as a free update, the update adds the much-beloved challenge mode to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game via PlayStation Store, the Xbox Series via Microsoft Store, and PC via Steam.

In case you’ve never played The Mercenaries from the original Resident Evil 4, the mode sees you racing against the clock in a battle for survival against increasing hordes of enemies that only get tougher as the clock ticks down. The objective is to kill enemies to earn points before you’re evacuated in the allotted time, with tougher enemies yielding more points.

Players pick from a selection of characters, each with unique abilities and weapons to add complexity to the task. And yes, much like the remake itself, The Mercenaries has been reimagined to offer up new surprises for longtime fans and newcomers alike.

For PlayStation 5 owners, this is only the start of the goodies, since they’ll be getting a VR mode down the line for the PS VR2. And then of course for everyone, there’s evidence that we could be seeing the “Separate Ways” minigame at some point for the remake. Time will tell, as they say.

And if you still haven’t made up your mind on plunking down the money, Reyna’s review of RE4 will help you in your decision.
