Horror Comedy RPG ‘Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3’ Announced; Demo Available Now [Trailer]

Strange Scaffold is back again in partnership with publisher Frosty Pop to unveil their upcoming genre-bending game, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3. The sequel to a game series that doesn’t exist will arrive later this year on Steam, but you can check out the demo now during Steam Next Fest.

This oddly-named game is a match-3 Survival Horror comedy RPG Metroidvania (or “matchroidvania”) that transports you to a mansion overrun with dinosaurs. And to add even more lunacy, goes the meta route with code-breaking bugs. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill creepy mansion; this is one stuck in a video game, and fully aware of it.

Discover the story of how, 20 years ago, the fictional, genre-fusion video game Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion was released and became a smash hit. Years later, the franchise returns to the spotlight when Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is shown off and announced on gaming’s biggest stage. Meanwhile, a very confused protagonist, J.J. Hardwell, fights off glitching raptors and T-Rexes in what he soon realizes is a broken video game that he must save.

Combining razor-sharp game development satire, role-playing, and satisfying match-3 gameplay, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is a rightfully bizarre take on the way creations can take on a life of their own — and the bright futures the games industry fails to even try to explore.

“Development cycles usually take so long that video games can’t comment on current events, let alone the ones occurring within their own industry,” says Strange Scaffold studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. “As improbable as it sounds, we want Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 of all games to take on a medium that currently doesn’t seem to care for its players or developers in a tale that is by turns unsettling, heartwarming, and suitably: angry as hell.”

As mentioned, you can check out the demo now until March 3. And if you don’t get a chance to play it, don’t worry. Aaron will have his thoughts on the demo, along with other select titles during Steam Next Fest, next week.

During the Future Games Show, Bandai Namco and Supermassive have announced the first DLC for Little Nightmares III in “The Backstage”. Featuring new puzzles and challenges, this additional content will take players to the darkest part of the Carnevale, where they’ll meet a new character and face new perils. You won’t have to wait long to get it, either, as Little Nightmares III – The Backstage DLC will release on June 12.

In this new adventure, Low will meet Dime, a new child who wears a torch hat, which turns out to be a very helpful tool for finding their way in what lies beneath the curtains of The Carnevale. The two children will have to face new threats and use their light to find a way to save Alone from the hands of the Puppeteer.

In the original game, players meet Low and Alone, who are trapped within the Spiral, a cluster of disturbing places. The two will have to work together to survive in a dangerous world full of delusions. As they scamper and shelter on their journey to escape the grasp of an even greater threat, their senses may also lead them astray into the shadows.

Little Nightmares III is currently available for PC via SteamXbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
