‘Silent Hill f’ Announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC; New Trailer and Details Revealed [Watch]

Konami didn’t disappoint with the Silent Hill Transmission today, revealing the NeoBards Entertainment-developed Silent Hill f (which was originally revealed back in 2022) will be coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Featuring Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto, the event delved into the story for this new entry, as well as featured an appearance from Silent Hill f scriptwriter Ryukishi07, and longtime Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoaka, who has contributed new music to the game.

The story takes place in 1960s Japan, where protagonist Shimizu Hinako’s secluded town of Ebisugaoka is consumed by a sudden fog, transforming her home into a haunting nightmare. As the town falls silent and the fog thickens, Hinako must navigate the twisted paths of Ebisugaoka, solving complex puzzles and confronting grotesque monsters to survive.

Silent Hill f will retain the series’ core elements of psychological horror, but with a focus on “[finding] the beauty in terror”, according to Motoi. “Regardless of its new setting in Japan, this is without a doubt a Silent Hill game. Silent Hill f‘s mixture of beautiful and terrifying visuals gives new life to Silent Hill as a Japanese-style horror game.”

Ryukishi07, known for his “Higurashi When They Cry” visual novel, described the concept of Silent Hill as a setting, one that has seen “many memories, stories and much pain with a dark history.” However, he also said that Silent Hill is also about portraying a characters’ struggles with the evil within themselves. “Of these two interpretations, if we consider the latter to be closer to the core of Silent Hill, then we can see how this game is very much a Silent Hill.”

Legendary composer Akira Yamaoka returns to craft the chilling soundscapes of Silent Hill f and its Fog World, blending haunting melodies attuned to the series’ psychological horror roots to create a universally unsettling experience. Accompanying Yamaoka is game composer Kensuke Inage, who has worked on the Dynasty Warriors series, as well as Tekken 8 and Samurai Shodown. Inage will be responsible for composing the music for the game’s Otherworld, adding a unique auditory contrast between the two Worlds in Silent Hill f.

A release date was not revealed during the presentation.

Bloober Returns to ‘Star Trek’ With Psychological Thriller ‘Star Trek: Shadow Frontier’ [Trailer]

Bloober Team weren’t done dropping news this week. After surprising everyone with SAW: Genesis at Summer Game Fest yesterday, they’ve now announced a new horror-slanted Star Trek title with Paramount Games Studio in Star Trek: Shadow Frontier. This is the second Star Trek title Bloober has developed, having released the VR body horror title Star Trek: Infection earlier this year.

“We’ve long admired the way Bloober Team crafts deeply immersive, atmospheric experiences that keep players on the edge of their seats,” said Paramount Games Studio senior vice president and head of creative and production Shawn Kittelsen. “For Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, it was essential to partner with a studio that could both honor that legacy and push it forward. We have full confidence in Bloober’s ability to deliver a game that does justice to the ‘Star Trek’ name while bringing something bold and new to the beloved franchise.”

Launching for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, the Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2027,  Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is a story-driven action-adventure that sees players step into the role of former Lieutenant Ro Laren (voiced by Michelle Forbes). After crashing onto a distant planet overtaken by a strange consciousness, Ro Laren must survive in an environment that is as breathtaking as it is lethal. Ro’s mission is driven by duty and purpose. But here, discovery comes at a terrible cost. The more she uncovers, the deeper she is pulled into a corrupted labyrinth where her memories twist and the planet threatens to sever her connection to reality.

The hostile ecosystem of the planet poses a constant threat to Ro’s existence. It seeks to absorb Ro’s consciousness, burrowing deep into her mind and plaguing her with haunting visions. Environmental hazards and obstacles lurk around every corner. Exploration is both your only path to salvation and your potential undoing. Players will be able to use their Tricorder to scan and analyze items, and of course rely on their Phaser to solve puzzles and fend off enemies.
