While we continue to wait on more details regarding Paramount’s Friday the 13th video game, you can take a trip back to where it all started, thanks to Zeichi Games and their free-to-play Game Boy Color game, Friday the 13th Revisited. Available to download from itch.io, this is a tribute to the 1988 NES classic from LJN, recreated from scratch for the Game Boy Color with new gameplay mechanics.
And yes, you really can play it on a Game Boy Color, provided you have the required hardware, or you can use an emulator.
As in the NES game, you’ll step into the shoes of one of the counsellors and explore the campground as you try to survive the threat of Jason Voorhees. Your goal: protect your friends and find items that will help you take on Jason—who is lurking around Crystal Lake Camp—before he finds you.
Designed specifically for the Game Boy Color and featuring graphics and gameplay mechanics that make the most of the platform, Friday the 13th Revisited sports smoother, more precise controls compared to the original game. The game also features a new trading system, where you collect items and trade them with advisors around the lake to obtain more powerful weapons. Keep in mind that if Jason captures one of the advisors, you’ll be locked out from trading for their items.
And as before, you’ll encounter Jason on your quest. The goal remains the same as in the original game, but once he is defeated, he’ll come back stronger.
