Indie developer 8BitSkull’s auto-battling dungeon crawler Skull Horde will see you commanding your skeleton army next month when it launches on Steam on April 10. Those itching to get their necromancy skills polished before release can do so with the game’s demo, which is available now.
Betrayed by your own flesh and blood, buried, and forced to spend an eternity underground, you are a necromancer who has a literal bone to pick, and as such, you’re out for revenge against the rest of your body. As you explore procedurally-generated dungeons in Skull Horde, you’ll collect loot from chests and shrines, but you must keep moving to avoid being overwhelmed. You’ll of course be battling a variety of enemy types that demand varied strategies, but luckily, you can use your funds to recruit your undead army, with each unit having different special abilities.
Buying multiple units of the same type merges them into stronger versions, until they eventually unlock a unique special ability. Loot found in the dungeon interacts with unit classes and tags to produce powerful benefits. You can also strategically reroll units and loot to craft the exact build that you need.
As you progress, you’ll unlock powerful perks that you can select at the beginning of a run. Combine your chosen perks with the strengths of the different playable characters to create the foundation for a powerful build. Each dungeon type comes with a set of unique challenges to complete, demanding different strategies to succeed, and reward you with new unlocks and content.
