Fans of The Outer Zone’s soulslike deckbuilder Death Howl have more content to dig into now with the free Rebirth Update. Available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the journey through the Spirit World gets even tougher, with the update introducing empowered enemies, reworked cards, and revamped battles alongside the new Rebirth Mode.
Rebirth Mode, which you’ll unlock after completing the game, is all about survival of the fittest. The enemies you’ll face this time around come equipped with new abilities and increased health, while Realmless cards are transformed with new names, effects, and visuals. As you continue your journey as Ro through a more dangerous-than-ever Spirit World, you’ll also take on a new look, donning a blue robe.
And if Rebirth Mode wasn’t enough content for you, Custom Mode raises the stakes even further. Unlocked after completing Rebirth Mode, it lets you tweak a wide range of settings: adjust the health of both enemies and Ro, choose which cards are available, add restrictions, modify penalties, and more.
On top of that, the core game has also received the expected balance changes, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements.
Death Howl casts players as Ro – a hunter from a small tribe – who is overcome by grief following the death of her beloved son. Guided by voices from another world, she transcends into the realm of spirits, in hopes of bringing him back. You’ll meet strange spirits and help them with quests and challenges that affect your deck – although not all of them may have your best interests at heart.
