Hey, all you cannibal cats and killer kittens, World of Death is back with two tales of horror about mixed messages and non-social distancing in a time that is almost as crazy and unreal as a horror movie. Here are two shorts that both begin with a ride, but not everyone arrives at their destination.
First up is 4EVR, directed by Sergio Pinheiro and written by Joe Fordham, a psychological tale of sadness, revenge, anger, and lust that is as complex as the media used in it. Cell phones, webcam, and Facebook meld with Polaroid photos and an outdated answering machine, which acts as an otherworldly device for the dead’s use to haunt the living.
Following is Parrish, directed by Alison-Eve Hammersley, written by Hammersley and Sofie Drummond-Moore, and based on the campfire story by Al Kalyk.
This is a taut and effective short in which Hammersley packs the intensity in minimum time with maximum results. Religious hints outline aspects of the story but don’t give away the whole plot as many films do. Tight shots and minimal music exceptionally accompany the dark atmosphere, filmed beautifully with expert cinematography from DOP Austin Kite.
Sit back, relax, and watch these with your ride-or-dies, and hopefully, you’ll make it to your destination.
