It’s been a long, hard road for Josh Howard’s live action adaptation of his comic book Dead@17. With The Last House on the Left director Dennis Iliadis still attached to direct, Howard updated fans on Twitter sharing one piece of positive news: “It’s been a long road, and still more to go, but negotiations have officially begun. #Dead@17movie” In the book Nara Kilday is killed, and finds herself mysteriously revived. She discovers she has to prevent the coming of Bolabogg, a demonic lord. This series also introduces Hazy Foss, her best friend, and Elijah, a friend of the two girls who Nara has a crush on. Ti West (The Roost, Trigger Man, The House of the Devil, Cabin Fever 2) is hot on the set of his latest genre pic, The Innkeepers, a ghostly tale of about the last two staffers (Sara Paxton and Pat Healy) of a haunted hotel that’s going out of business. It’s quickly becoming a full house for Universal Pictures’ thriller Dream House as Rachel Fox (pictured below; “Desperate Housewives”) is set co-star in Jim Sheridan’s flick that follows a writer and his family who have recently moved into a house and soon find out it was the site of a recent murder and that the killer may still be at large. She stars alongside Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. Personally, I hope this film heads in a supernatural direction as the idea of another home invasion plot has my stomach churning (why not make it an exorcism movie? Joking…). The only real awards event for horror comes every October thanks to Spike TV and their annual SCREAM awards ceremony. Taping on Saturday, October 17 at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, CA, “SCREAM 2009” celebrates the hottest films, tv shows, comics, actors, creators, icons and pioneers who have influenced and shaped the industry. According to Video ETA and Blu-ray.com, Warner Home Video will release The Last House on the Left on both DVD and Blu-ray August 18th. The disc will be a BD50 (for Blu-ray) and will include both the R-rated theatrical cut and the unrated cut, four minutes longer. Audio will be 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, with English, French or Spanish subtitles. Special features include: Deleted Scenes, A Look Inside (Featurette), Digital copy of the Unrated version, BD-Live My Scenes Sharing. Update: STYD reports that Midnight Entertainment is no longer involved as their contract expired in February. Boo. I’ve been digging around and am pretty sure this news is brand spanking new. We learned today that Wes Craven is producing a new horror film for Midnight Entertainment by the name of Home. Written by Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left), story follows a man, fresh out of prison and under provisional house arrest in a cabin in the woods, who struggles with his own psychological delusions. Yes, there’s even more news from last night’s screening of The Last House on the Left, where we were told by numerous individuals that if the film performs well, they will in fact fast-track a sequel. Another project still alive and well is Craven’s remake of The People Under the Stairs, which we’re told they’re close to signing a director. “The script is looking very promising,” explaining that whomever directs the movie will decide what type of tone the remake will have. “We’ll find the director and see his or her take on it really.” Both People Under the Stairs and Shocker remakes are still over at Universal Pictures.
