[Interview] TIFF ’11: ‘You’re Next’s Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, Actress Sharni Vinson!

The thought of being terrorized in the safety of your own home will always rank right up as one of people’s biggest fears. Filmmakers are very aware of this since they’ve been dwelling into this terrifying concept time and time again with the never passé, home invasion subgenre. It’s been the perfect avenue for directors to showcase/show-off their technical craft. Some of my favorites have been Straw Dogs (the Peckinpah original, of course) Black Christmas (don’t you dare ask which one), Funny Games (both versions actually), Panic Room, Inside and the criminally underseen, Them. Special Feature: ‘Scream 4,’ Slicing Into New Rules & Conventions

In the decade-plus period of time that has passed since the release of Scream 3, there’s no doubt that the horror landscape has changed significantly. In the intervening years we’ve witnessed the rise of the torture porn craze, seen a resurgence in “found footage”/shaky-cam horror, and watched helplessly as a seemingly unyielding series of remakes cluttered up our local multiplexes. Interview: Victor Salva Talks Move to ‘Rosewood Lane’

Finally gearing up for production is director Victor Salva’s Rosewood Lane, which follows a talk show psychiatrist (Rose McGowan) who returns to her hometown following the death of her father and becomes the target of the malicious neighborhood paperboy who stalked and murdered him. The film, which will also star Jeepers Creepers vet Ray Wise, has been a pet project of Salva’s for several years now, and it will be the director’s first feature effort since 2006′s Peaceful Warrior, as well as his first horror film since Jeepers Creepers 2 in 2003. The Top 10 Inbred Movies of All Time

It’s actually pretty amazing just how many horror films focus on inbreeding. You don’t truly realize it until you sit down and try to tally them all. Apparently, there is much horror to be found in the illicit, deranged fruits of incestuous breeding. Well, it’s tough to argue with that one. So without further ado, here are some of the most infamous examples of horror flicks featuring wacked-out inbreds…. (more…) READ MORE

Update: Margot Kidder Joins ‘H2′, New Title?

Update: Zombie edited his blog removing the new title, so we’ll keep you posted as the new title is officially revealed. Well known nutter and one of my favorite actresses from the 70′s, Margot Kidder (The Amityville Horror, Sisters, Superman, Black Christmas), has joined the cast of Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel, which apparently has been given a new name. “Margot Kidder has joined Halloween – The Devil Walks Among Us as Laurie Strode’s therapist Barbara Collier,” writes Zombie on his official blog. I wasn’t a big fan of the moniker H2 and think Halloween: The Devil Walks Among Us is a pretty solid new title. Shooting is now underway in Georgia as Dimension has the film slated for release on August 28. (more…) READ MORE
