‘The Possession Experiment’ Trailer is Vicious, Gory, and Epic

A new trailer for the upcoming exorcism film The Possession Experiment has been released and really gives a taste of how grand the movie is going to feel.

While it looks like the film primarily takes place in the basement of creepy manor, the premise of the film allows for the exorcism to be streamed online and, therefore, be available for anyone to watch directly in their home. From there, it seems that the movie takes some inspiration from Kairo, where ghosts and demonic entities can invade their host through the power of the internet. That reach really gives this movie an interesting twist as it makes the possession feel almost like a plague sweeping across the globe.

The Possession Experiment stars Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), Greg Travis, Chris Minor, Jake Brinn, Nicky Jasper, and Angelo Reyes. It is directed by Scott Hansen and as of now has a release date of October 2016.

Jonathan, not to be argumentative/contrarian but you thought this trailer was vicious, gory and epic? 🙂
the scene where the girl is sitting in the chair and her head is banging against the monitor was unintentionally hilarious and the lead guy (who’s narrating) is already incredibly irritating. but who knows, maybe this movie will be good. 🙂

    • RidleyScott

It stars Bill Moseley. That’s all I need to know that it will be garbage.

  • For a POV style movie, this looks like it has potential. I love demonic horror films on top of it.

    • alwayswipetwice

      I prefer demon horror movies.
Demons > every exorcism movie other than Exorcist 1 & 3

  • Creepshow

I thought that The Possession Experiment was a documentary. A true story of tired possession films that the horror community has been fed for an eternity. I thought it would have been a 90 minute compilation of clips, from the garbage possession films from the past 15 years.

  • Hash-Slinging Slasher

You lost me at Possession and Experiment.

    • khail19

seriously. where do they buy these Madlibs for movie title choices?

  • Chamber

Demonic possession films haven’t been interesting since the first paranormal Activity, and people just keep falling into the same tired-ass tropes; Priest, medium, Oija board, ect. It’s overused and has proven to not work in the grand scheme of things. There are PLENTY of other religions that believe that demonic possession is real, why do you keep insisting that Catholics are the only ones? Jew’s, Pentecostals, Voudoo, ect. all have demonic possession in some way shape or form. Stop relying on the tired-ass Catholic approach and start finding an original way to present it. This movie looks good from a technical standpoint, but when you are just regurgitating the crap that every other possession movie has ever done before you, what are you really trying to accomplish?

    • Saturn

Get what you’re saying – I’d like to see something from the Islamic point of view, or to be really different, the Hindu/Sikh/Buddhist angle,

  • AphroditeBoy

They’re trying to integrate technology into horror films, but I don’t think they’re playing on it as well as they could be. I’m surprised no one has tried to do a ‘Serial Experiments Lain’-esque thing yet.

    • Thomas Ellis

There have been a few horror movies that play on technology and the internet, but I can’t think of any good ones. Definitely nothing on par with Serial Experiments Lain

    • Thomas Ellis

Oh, except Tetsuo the Iron Man! That shit was awesome.

      • TH3J4CK4L

Tetsuo was great. There have been a few others with pulse & one missed call(japanese, not american) it doesn’t happen often. Id love to write a film that would sort of parody it like Beeper or a haunted house film with hipsters & their phones lol

        • Thomas Ellis

I was going to mention Kairo (pulse) as well, but it’s been a loong time since I’ve seen it. I remember it being good though, I’ll have to rewatch at some point

          • TH3J4CK4L

Kurosawa usually tackles themes like that well, like he did with kairo. His characters are usually just as interesting studies as well like from Cure(its on youtube & id recommend that as well) & his other film Doppleganger.

  • Alanmac

Been kinda bored with exorcism movies as of late but I have to say this trailer has got my interest peaked!!

  • This could be cool and I love watching Bill Moseley even though he doesn’t always nail his performances.

  • Saturn

I love me some Demonic Possession movies – although most are shite,
Fingers (upside down) crossed that this one ticks the correct boxes – the trailer looks good.,

  • zombie84_41

I hate demonic possession films none really scare me, they are all boring and mumbo jumbo religous shit most of the time.

    • Check out the 70s’ demonic possession films, for they were more fun, wild, and amazing that truly put the current batch of possession films to shame(which are becoming as stale and lame as modern ghost films and found footage films).

      • zombie84_41

I didn’t even know they had many. Unless the Italians made a bunch ?

  • Momma June Bug

Oh wow another found footage possession movie . I’m so scared . Not

  • Kadaver

Why would anyone want to prove that possession is real by offering yourself as a vessel for demonic possession? That’s just beyond stupid. Mostly curious how they are going to explain his motivation for such an action. Otherwise it looks pretty derivative.

  • Good to see who lives and who dies in this trailer!

  • KennyThaKilla

Sigh. This is one genre that has really been beaten to death. The only time I watch these anymore is to see if the possessed chick is going to start doing dirty shit. Sadly, not too many go in that direction.

  • Frank Popp Jr.

Im tired of exorcism, & found footage movies…. but hey, this actually looks pretty relentless.

  • mph23

Possession movies. The first and 3rd exorcist were good…That’s about it. This one might be fun for shits and giggles on netflix in a year or two, though. Like a lot of ‘horror’ movies.

  • Lucca Cantisano

Wow, so many lens flares even JJ is jealous…

  • Micah Unice

Wow. Some major spoilers in that trailer.

  • anonymouse

Author JonathanBarkan has no clue what he’s talking about. All of his supposition about what this film contains is far more ambitious that the film itself, which I have seen all too many times. This movie sucks. It’s a tired ripoff of The Exorcist with terrible writing and even worse acting. Its only redeeming quality is about one minute of very interesting low-angle camerawork in the mansion set — shots that amount to throw-aways.

Which is what the producer should’ve done when he read this stale, shitty-ass script. He should’ve thrown it away.
