Overture Films Puts the Breaks on ‘Freaks of the Heartland’
Big studio news is happening right now as Overture, Liberty Media’s 3-year-old film unit, is hitting the pause button, with reports that a huge buyout may be in the works. While you can read all about that here, a little nugget of news adds that Freaks of the Heartland, a remake of the 2006 film from Iceland, is one of the films affected. Illustrated by Greg Ruth, Steve Niles’ six-part 2004 series was about the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen’s attempts to protect his “monster” of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley’s other “freaks” from their parents’ worst instincts. It was to be directed by David Gordon Green.
