Horror In Your House Brings You ‘Martyrs’!

Last year it was Inside and Frontier(s), this year you’ll be telling all of your friends about a French film by the name of Martyrs, a movie we’ve been pushing on you since last September. Now it’s your turn to chime in as the Weinstein Company has finally put the film out on DVD (no Blu-ray, what gives?) in a store near you. Also arriving at a retailer tomorrow are Anchor Bay’s While She Was Out, Paramount’s remake of A Tale of Two Sisters known as The Uninvited, among many others. THE CENTERFOLD GIRLS: Dark Sky

Soon a number of other beautiful women turn up dead, their throats also cut open. Nurses, students, stewardesses… what s the common thread? All were centerfold models for a popular men s magazine, prey to a bloodthirsty psychotic with a straight razor!

COLD EYES OF FEAR: Redemption USA

Motivated by revenge, an ex-con abducts the son of the judge who put him behind bars. The plot thickens as a deeper betrayal is revealed, leading the story to erotic S&M scenes with scantily-clad women and violent trysts in darkened, atmospheric nightclub settings.

EMPIRE OF PASSION: Criterion

With an arresting mix of eroticism and horror, Oshima plunges the viewer into a nightmarish tale of guilt and retribution in Empire of Passion (Ai no borei). Set in a Japanese village at the end of the nineteenth century, the film details the emotional and physical downfall of a married woman and her younger lover following their decision to murder her husband and dump his body in a well.

EXIT 38: S’more

Lee Gray and Boyd Parker are members of an elite FBI unit but they never intended on being partners. In fact, these men wanted nothing to do with one another, but when a cunning vampire starts feasting on the blood of innocent girls in a small Nevada town, they have no choice but to go on a mission to track down the dangerous vampire and end his streak of terror. It will take the assets of the FBI and the direction of a Chinese master to find the evil vampire known as Mercer. They find him ensconced off ‘Exit 38’ at his current feeding ground, a “gentlemen’s club” in an unsuspecting town. Upon their arrival, they learn that Mercer has taken captive the wife of Lee Gray and the daughter of Boyd Parker. Lucie, a 10 year old girl, is found wandering in the streets, bruised and bloodied. Unable to say who did this to her, or why, she is placed in a hospital where she meets Anna, another young girl who had been abused. Fifteen years later, with Anna s help, Lucie sets out to get revenge on her attackers. When she believes she has found the couple who abused her, she confronts them …and that is when the terror truly begins.

ONE-EYED MONSTER: Liberation

In a comic homage to Alien and The Thing , the cast and crew of an adult film, stranded in a blizzard, must band together against a mysterious and deadly alien, which has possessed the actor with the biggest part Ron Jeremy (naturally). Now, with the monster on a killing spree, the race is on to trap and destroy it before there are more victims of its peculiar skills.

The Uninvited revolves around Anna, who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse, Rachel. That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s intentions. Together, Anna and her sister try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother.

WHILE SHE WAS OUT: Anchor Bay

A suburban housewife is forced to fend for herself when she becomes stranded in a desolate forest with four murderous thugs. What starts off as a quick trip to the mall ends in the woods with a fight for her life. All she has is a toolbox and her will to survive.

Matilda Firth Joins the Cast of Director Leigh Whannell’s ‘Wolf Man’ Movie

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
