Chad Ferrin Looks to ‘The Thing’ For ‘Dances With Werewolves’ Inspiration

Published

on

It was announced last week that Chad Ferrin would be getting behind the camera for Dances With Werewolves, a thriller by screenwriter David Chirchirillo based on the legendary, supernatural transformative powers of some Native American Indian warriors. While no details about the 3D project were revealed, we had to assume that the creepy mind behind Someone’s Knocking At The Door was planning a new spin for this genre. We were right, oh damn we were right!

The vision swimming around in my head is Sam Peckinpah doing The Thing with a dash of Sergio Corbucci,” Ferran tells Bloody Disgusting in an excluisve chat. “I want to tackle this old school with NO CGI and werewolves like you’ve never seen before. It will be a bloody, violent, horrific ride through the old west, and I will pour my soul into every frame to ensure that it stands proudly amongst my two favorite genres.

How about that folks? And I know this guy can deliver. Color me excited.

The film will commence principal photography on October 24, 2010 in Michigan, with full delivery scheduled for September, 2011 and U.S.A. theatrical release set for February, 2012. Casting is currently underway for principal stars, with key talent to be announced in July.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
