‘The Evil Within’ Trailer Revealed, Coming In 2014
A man makes barbed wire as a four-armed Witch from Left 4 Dead climbs out of a puddle of blood and a man with too much glass in his face stands there looking all creepy. That’s what you can expect from this debut trailer for The Evil Within — previously known as project Zwei.
“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.” Watch its intensely creepy live-action debut trailer after the jump.
I have to admit, I thought this might be a vampire game with those text effects in the beginning. I think a half dozen vampire movies have done that same exact thing. After watching the whole thing, I honestly have no idea. A barbed wire creation sim? I wouldn’t put it past Mikami.
This is the next — and potentially the last — game to be directed by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil franchise. Mikami’s Tango Gameworks studio is developing it, with Bethesda handling the publishing.
The Evil Within launches on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and next-generation consoles in 2014.
Also, here’s this!
This game has a definite barbed wire theme to it.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
