Mysterious “Twin Peaks” Billboards Have Begun Popping Up
David Lynch’s bizarre soap opera returns in just two months.
The promotional campaign for the big return of Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” is in full swing, and much like the show itself, it’s been weirdly compelling. As we told you earlier this month, posters with a phone number attached to them are popping up all over Australia; calling the number plays a pre-recorded message… backwards. Here in the States, things aren’t any less strange.
As reported by the website Welcome to Twin Peaks, massive “Twin Peaks” billboards have been spotted in Washington, Pennsylvania and Montana. While some of them show a heart-shaped cherry pie (with a familiar zig-zag pattern), others depict that pie’s missing piece. The billboards are mostly blank with the images off to one side, suggesting more will soon be added.
Keep your eyes peeled, “Twin Peaks” fans!

“Twin Peaks” will return on Sunday, May 21, at 9/8c, with a two-hour premiere. The new David Lynch-directed episodes are set 25 years after the events of the original series.
All told, the revival will consist of 18 hours. Immediately following the two-hour opener, Episodes 3 and 4 will be available On Demand and via Showtime’s streaming platform.
The surreal drama, which aired on ABC from 1990 to 1991, followed FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (to again be played by Kyle MacLachlan) as he investigated the curious murder of a homecoming queen in the sleepy town of Twin Peaks, Wash.
The revival’s cast list features the return of several actors from the original series (including Sherilyn Fenn, Madchen Amick, Sheryl Lee and David Duchovny) plus a bunch of new faces (including Enlightened‘s Laura Dern, Arrested Development‘s Michael Cera, The Thorn Birds‘ Richard Chamberlain, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and Gossip Girl‘s Jessica Szohr).

McDonald’s No-Clips Out of Reality with Unexpected ‘Backrooms’ Short Movie
The best part about engaging with collaborative genre fiction on the internet is that anyone can get in on the action, with worldwide accessibility often resulting in absurd story beats that wouldn’t be possible if any single person was responsible for the entire narrative. And while Kane Parsons’ Backrooms film is definitely the young filmmaker’s own unique take on the infamous creepypasta, it’s fun to see other creators join the Backrooms sandbox now that the big screen adaptation is getting ready for a record-shattering opening weekend.
As if cleverly timed releases like Puppet Combo’s The Backrooms game weren’t enough (not to mention that Scary Movie poster poking fun at Parsons’ flick), McDonald’s official social media accounts have now released an analog horror video of their own celebrating the liminal terrors of the McRooms – complete with a familiar purple surprise at the end of the footage.
While it’s funny enough to see the world’s most recognizable Fast Food giant engage with internet-borne Found Footage thrills seemingly out of the blue, the video is actually referencing a long-running gag among the Backrooms fandom where creators jokingly talk about there being a fully functional McDonald’s restaurant hidden somewhere in level 0 of the infamous liminal labyrinth.
Now, would it be too much to hope for a moist-carpet-flavored McShake to tie in with the film?
Backrooms is now playing only in theaters from A24.
