We’re following an entirely new group of protagonists on a journey that differs greatly from what we’ve already seen in Roche Limit. They’re on a mission to Dispater (the planet from the original Roche Limit series) to investigate the abandoned colony and set up a temporary settlement.
Clandestiny’s finds its lead in Sasha, the science lead on the mission. She’s joined by Elbus, the gruff rough n’ tumble leader of the operation and a real motley crew of mercenaries whose ideals seem to lay somewhere south of loyalty and honour. As their ship nears Dispater the crew congregates for a debrief before landfall. The mission hasn’t even begun in earnest yet but tensions are already sky high. Elbus’s command of the room keeps things civil for the interim.
While bringing everyone up to speed on the task ahead they suddenly receive a transmission from the supposedly abandoned planet, a distress signal no less. The situation quickly escalates and before anyone can even wrap their heads around what’s happening they’re plummeting to the surface. One hell of a rough landing later they’re stranded until they can make repairs. But before they can even start on fixing the ship they’ve gotta find out who and where that surprise attack came from.
It’s a framing device you’ve probably seen before but where Clandestiny shines are in its many nuances and mysteries. Sasha is already incredibly complex, with so many unknowns floating around her it’s hard to even get a bead on her true motivations. She’s an exciting enigma and a worthy successor to Ford. (star of the last series) Clandestiny stands tall, meeting the high bar set by Roche Limit and possibly even raising it a few more notches. Do not miss this dynamite comic on May 6th.
