[San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘Solomon Kane’ Is Finally Coming Out…And There’s A Trailer!

I absolutely hated Michael J. Bassett’s Solomon Kane when I caught its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival a few years back (2009 to be exact). Now, after multiple San Diego Comic-Con appearances, it appears the James Purefoy starrer is finally getting a U.S. release via The Weinstein Company’s new division Radius.

Screening at the convention, it was announced that Solomon Kane will do battle with evil on VOD August 24 before opening in limited theaters September 28. Yahoo! premiered the final trailer, dig it below.

The character of Solomon Kane was originated by pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard, the legendary creator of “Conan” and “Red Sonja”. The film adaptation tells the heroic story of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption for a lifetime of sins by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil.

Pete Postlethwaite, Max Von Sydow, Rachel Hurd Wood, Alice Krige, Mackenzie Crook also star. READ MORE

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Edgar Wright’s ‘The World’s End’ Gets Greenlit; Here’s The Convention Poster!

Universal Pictures has officially green lit The World’s End, the third film in director Edgar Wright’s trilogy of comedies with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost that began with 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and 2007’s Hot Fuzz. Deadline shares the following teaser poster that premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con Friday.

The film starts 20 years after five childhood friends attempted an epic pub crawl. The friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Wright is currently in pre-production on the film, which will begin shooting this October in the U.K. READ MORE

‘World War Z’ Filmmaker Marc Forster Headed To Director’s Jail After Feud With Brad Pitt?!

The troubles behind World War Z have never been secret, but they’ve definitely been tackled lightly by mainstream press. That ends today as Vulture is reporting that star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster have broken up.

“The horde of zombies in Paramount Pictures’ World War Z aren’t the only ones ravenous for brains: So is the troubled blockbuster’s star and producer, Brad Pitt, who Vulture hears exclusively from multiple production sources has become so frustrated with the film’s director, Marc Forster, that he stopped speaking to him altogether as the production heads into at least three weeks of reshoots,” says the website. “Things got so bad that when Forster had notes on a scene for Pitt, they had to be relayed through an intermediary — and vice versa.”

They also note the irony of the situation adding that “Pitt, whose company, Plan B, is producing World War Z, originally fought for Forster to be given the director’s chair on World War Z. The studio was wary, because his only other big-budget action film was Quantum of Solace, the 2008 James Bond film that proved a notoriously difficult shoot.”

And while previous reports hit that both Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard have reworked the finale, the site claims that Paramount is still trying to decide whether to just try to fix what they have or get writers to completely re-envision the film’s final. The shocker (I guess?) is that whatever happens with the script, additional — and possibly outside — directing help is likely to be sought for the action sequences that will need to be reshot.

The adaptation revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. READ MORE

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Full Trailer Introduces The Twisted & Surgical ‘American Mary’!

Everyone seems to be a pretty huge fan of Dead Hookers in a Trunk, and directors Jen and Sylvia Soska are back with their second indie feature, American Mary, which will star both Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, Freddy vs Jason) and Paula Lindberg.

Starring Katharine Isabelle, this metaphor for the Soskas own journey through the independent film industry follows medical student Mary Mason as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted. [San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘Frankenweenie’ Convention Trailer Gives “Homage” To Classic Horror!

Walt Disney Pictures is going Frankenweenie crazy at the San Diego Comic-Con having just released even more awesomeness. In Tim Burton’s latest animated feature in a young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. Fitting in with today’s poster premiere, the new convention trailer gives “homage” to some classic horror tropes. Watch it below! Why step through 100,000 people when we bring you the Comic-Con straight to your home?

The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!) and Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow), while Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer were later added. Over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film, and that several of the character names—Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar “E” Gore and Mr. Burgermeister— were inspired by classic horror films.

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, Frankenweenie was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.
