Hounded by a gossip columnist, Dr. Lacasse uncovers a series of troubling facts that bolster his convictions about the case. Nine-Minute Teaser For The Devil’s Carnival: Episode 2 Feat. Tech N9ne

A nine-minute teaser (courtesy of the fine folk over at Vice) entitled The Devil’s Carnival 2: The Librarian, has been released. Meant as a hint of what’s to come, the teaser is “…chock-full of visual and musical hints of the heavenly delight that awaits audiences in The Devil’s Carnival: Episode 2“.

The teaser shows horror rapper Tech N9ne as the librarian of a twisted, nightmarish library, one that is full of magic and sounds. However, N9ne isn’t exactly a fan of noises that he isn’t in control of. So let’s just say that things would’ve gone better had someone bitten their tongue. Check out the trailer below.

2013 will see a new roadshow by Saw II-IV, 11-11-11, Mother’s Day and The Barrens director Darren Lynn Bousman, who returns to direct another chapter in the battle between Heaven and Hell. Creator Terrance Zdunich (Repo! The Genetic Opera) also returns. READ MORE

The Barrens

Moyer will play a man who takes his family on a camping trip to the more than 1 million acres of dense forest known as the New Jersey Pine Barrens, where he becomes convinced they’re being stalked by the legendary winged monster that looks like a deformed hybrid of several different animals.

The legend of The Jersey Devil has been passed along for hundreds of years, as the creature has risen from obscurity to take its place alongside the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot and the Chupacabra.

Darren Lynn Bousman Talks ‘The Devil’s Carnival 2′, Taking A Break And ‘Abattoir’

I caught up with Darren Bousman last night on the red carpet for the Eyegore Awards (which kicked off this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood). He’s had a busy year what with The Devil’s Carnival, Mother’s Day and the upcominng release of The Barrens. So he’s probably taking a little break pretty soon – but not until after The Devil’s Carnival 2.

He told us, “We’re starting pre-production right now. It takes place in Heaven and it’s a lot more dark and f*cked up than the first one that takes place in Hell. So Heaven is a lot darker than Hell in our case. Everyone [from the original] is back and we have a whole new cast of misfits as well.

Is he keeping up the breakneck pace after that? “No. I’m taking a break. I’m ready to die.” After the break? “The only thing I can talk about is Abattoir. I had a comic book series called ‘Abattoir’ and I’m writing the script [for the film] right now. That’s in the very early stages of pre-production. That would probably be my next movie.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights dates are September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 31.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard much about Darren Lynn Bousman’s psychological horror The Barrens, which stars Stephen Moyer, Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen, J Larose, Allie MacDonald, Max Topplin and Peter DaCunha. The film played Cannes in May and now we’ve learned that the film will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray on October 9th. But you can see it theatrically! On the big screen! It opens in limited release on September 28th! There’s also a TUGG theatrical campaign in the works – but I’d advise you to just go ahead and check your local listings and see it on the 28th. Let exhibitors know you want to see it with your wallet, not some petition.

The Devil’s Carnival – the latest musical from Darren Lynn Bousman (Repo: The Genetic Opera, Saw 2-4, Mother’s Day) is headed back out on the road after a successful 40 date tour earlier this year. It all kicks off at 11:59PM on July 13th during the San Diego Comic-Con at the Gaslamp Theatre (tickets here)! We attended the premiere of the event back in April and you are welcome to read our positive recap.

But before the Devil continues his road show, Bloody Disgusting has landed an exclusive clip that ties into a pretty cool promotion. In this scene, Lucifer (Zdunich) reads the classic fable “The Scorpion and the Frog” as the slick and charming Scorpion (Marc Senter) croons “Trust Me” to his gullible frog gal, Tamara (Jessica Lowndes). Aided by the lovely Painted Doll (Emilie Autumn), The Scorpion uses a knife-thrower’s deadly accuracy to strike love into Tamara’s heart. But once she takes his bait, this Lothario can’t help but reveal his true, venomous nature.

In short, creators Darren Lynn Bousman and Terrance Zdunich want to hear your cover of “Trust Me”, a lethal lullaby from their new musical movie. The most infernally inspired videos will be screened in front of thousands on The Devil’s Carnival 24-City EncoreTour! (Tickets for all shows are available here.)

[DVD Review] ‘Mother’s Day’ Bousman’s Best Effort

Review by Brad McHargue: I am not fond of Darren Lynn Bousman. His claim to fame is three of the seven Saw movies, with Repo! The Genetic Opera making him a sort of household name among fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Since then the movie gods haven’t as kind, with his most recent film 11/11/11 being a critical and commercial failure. Tucked in between there, however, is Mother’s Day, a remake of the 1980 thriller of the same name. It premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2010, and since then, has been seeking distribution to no avail. The film has finally landed on Blu-ray and DVD, and while it’s certainly not a great film, or even a consistently good one, it manages to be Bousman’s best effort, due in part to stellar performances by Rebecca de Mornay and Jaime King. [Interview] Darren Lynn Bousman On ‘Mother’s Day’, ‘Cinco De Mayo’ And Part Two Of ‘The Devil’s Carnival’

Darren Lynn Bousman’s Mother’s Day is out today from Anchor Bay Films on Blu-ray+DVD Combo Pack and on DVD. It’s an intense little film with an enesemble cast that includes Rebecca DeMornay (The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Wedding Crashers), Jamie King (Red Tails, My Bloody Valentine, Sin City), Brianna Evigan (S. Darko, Step Up 2: The Streets), Patrick John Flueger (Footloose, Brothers), Deborah Ann Woll (HBO’s “True Blood”), Lyriq Bent (Saw II-IV, Skinwalkers), Frank Grillo (The Grey, Minority Report) and Shawn Ashmore (the X-Men films, Frozen).

This movie is actually pretty damn intense. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be quite as visceral as it is, and it adds a few new scenarios to the home invasion genre that I hadn’t seen yet. I recently hopped on the phone with Bousman to discuss the film, its long road to release and the impact of the film’s violence (along with an alternate 4 hour cut that will probably never see the light of day). We also discussed Cinco De Mayo, the upcoming film that took us all by surprise last Saturday. Finally we touch upon The Devil’s Carnival tour and his plans for that film’s sequel.

In the film, “After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers go home to hideout…only to discover that their Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) lost their house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their party guests become the depraved brothers’ unwitting hostages. Their sadistic Mother soon arrives and brilliantly takes control of the situation, ratcheting up the terror. As the hostages struggle desperately to survive the harrowing torture, they realize that there is nothing a Mother won’t do to protect her children.

[DVD Review] Religious Shocker ’11-11-11′

Reviewed by Mike Ferraro: Every once in a while, our calendars call for something completely understandable and normal to happen, but people of various backgrounds and beliefs take it to a place of idiocy. You may remember some months ago that a date fell upon on that caused one simple number to be repeated over and over, causing some people to freak out and claim something mystifying is going to happen. Of course it never does. Regardless, that date was 11-11-11 and coincidentally, that also happens to be the name of the new film from writer/director Darren Bousman (Saw II, III, and IV). READ MORE

We Attended ‘The Devil’s Carnival’ Premiere, Here’s What You Can Expect

This past thursday The Devil’s Carnival had its world premiere at the Laemmle Royal Theater in Santa Monica. Before the show a line of gothic carnie cosplayers snaked around the block from the building’s entrance – no doubt fans of Darren Lynn Bousman and his previous cult hit, Repo: The Genetic Opera.

The Devil’s Carnival wasn’t only premiering at the event, it was embarking on a 40 plus date road show that will see it – and members of its cast and crew – traveling the countryside and taking their circus to as many theaters as possible. Whatever you may think of Repo or this film, at least they provide experiences that are impossible to download.

Terrance Zdunich, who co-wrote Repo, also wrote the music for Carnival with Saar Hendelman. Zdunich stars alongside Bill Moseley, Briana Evigan, Emilie Autumn, J. Larose, Alexa Vega, Ogre, Paul Sorvino, Marc Senter, Sean Patrick Flanery and Slipknot’s The Clown.

Sample Darren Lynn Bousmans Commentary For 11 11 11!

Big Air Studios will release Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11 on DVD this coming April 24th. Special features will include a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, and, of course, a commentary.

And we have a sample of that commentary for you today. Even if I didn’t love 11-11-11, I think Bousman’s a smart, engaging guy and I quite like the clip we’re previewing here. It’s a particularly interesting segment wherein he discusses the leaked international print that caused problems for the production while they were in post. I definitely recommend taking a look. And if you’re a fan of the film, even better.

In the film, “After the tragic death of his wife and child, famed American author Joseph Crone travels from the United States to Barcelona, Spain to reunite with his estranged brother Samuel and dying father, Richard. However, fate has a different plan for Joseph as his life becomes plagued with strange happenings, and the constant sightings of the number 11. Curiosity quickly turns to obsession, and Joseph soon realizes that this number holds a horrific meaning not only to himself but possibly to all of religion. Isolated in a foreign country with only the support of his companion, Sadie, Joseph soon realizes that 11/11/11 is more than just a date, it’s a WARNING!” Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes, Wendy Glenn, Lluis Soler, Ángela Rosal, Brendan Price, Salomé Jimenez, Benjamin Cook and Montse Alcoverro all star.

Bousman directed Saw II-IV, Repo!,Mother’s Day, and is currently in post on The Barrens.

New ‘Mother’s Day’ Trailer Invades Your Home, Lays Down Some Rules

mothersdaynew080311 New Mothers Day Trailer Invades Your Home, Lays Down Some Rules

Anchor Bay Films is gearing up for the May 8th Blu-ray/DVD release of Mother’s Day with this new trailer, and I think it’s a significant improvement over the last one.

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III and IV) with screen story and screenplay by Scott Milam based on the original Mother’s Day written by Charles Kaufman and Warren Leight, Mother’s Day is a graphic remake of the Troma horror classic. “After a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers go home to hideout…only to discover that their Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) lost their house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their party guests become the depraved brothers’ unwitting hostages. Their sadistic Mother soon arrives and brilliantly takes control of the situation, ratcheting up the terror. As the hostages struggle desperately to survive the harrowing torture, they realize that there is nothing a Mother won’t do to protect her children.”

Mother’s Day will also have an exclusive theatrical engagement in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago on May 4th in select theaters.
