[Modern Art] All Hail The Pumpkin King

Today, we’re looking at some gorgeous digital paintings from Slovakian artist Rado Javor. After sifting through his gallery I’d say he’s a man who shares my fondness for Halloween. He does an amazing job of capturing the essence of the holiday, which is so much more than costumes, haunted houses and trick or treating. Looking at his work makes me want to scour a pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkin so I can take it home, stab it repeatedly, pull out its insides, set it on fire and display it on my porch for all to see.

Oh, and there are also a few awesome paintings of alien invasions, because hey, those are cool too.

[Modern Art] Xeno-Santa Is Spreading Christmas Fear

Want some pretty pictures to look at? I knew you would, and that’s why I’ve collected some amazing art from Deviant Artist Anastasiya Sytnik. Because I care about you.

Her work is all over the place — and I mean that in the best way possible — above you can see a Xenomorph Santa, which I wouldn’t want slithering down my chimney, and after the break you’ll find all sorts of twisted and almost otherworldly horror art, from ghostly horse looking things to an extremely well-dressed demon.

[Modern Art] My Eyes Are Bleeding, But I Kind Of Like It

Today I have a real treat for all of you. We’re going to dive into the dark and wonderful world that is Austen Mengler’s art. It’s horrifying, grotesque, and beautiful. This guy has a talent for the macabre, and it was crazy difficult picking work from his gallery to show here. Seriously, there’s a lot of great stuff that covers a wide range of entertainment, including A Nightmare On Elm Street, Dead Space, Silent Hill, Batman, and even Sesame Street. I’ve featured this artist before, specifically his work on the upcoming indie horror game Dear Charlotte. Apparently, that was only a small taste of what this artist is capable of.

[Modern Art] These Horror Movie Killers Would Look Great On My Wall

If I had to make a list of the top four horror movie killers, it’d include Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Pinhead. Ghostface comes in at a close fifth place, and of course there’s Chucky, Leatherface, Jigsaw, Hannibal Lecter — err, this isn’t the point. Deviant Artist Chris Fulton has done a fantastic job capturing their murderous charm, which I don’t find all that surprising after seeing his amazing Silent Hill art. After the break I have five of the top horror movie killers, and the mystery killer is quite possibly the most death-obsessed of them all.

[Modern Art] Pyramid Head Is A Total Beefcake In This ‘Silent Hill’ Fan Art

I just had an idea: Pyramid Head pin-up calendar. Someone get on that.

After the break I have some amazing Silent Hill fan art by Deviant Artist Chris Fulton, who has managed to capture Pyramid Head in all his gym rat glory. Now I can’t help but picture him stuffing raw eggs and protein shakes into the holes in his helmet and trying to impress the nurses by doing curl-ups with his freakishly long sword.

[Modern Art] You Look Like You Could Use Some ‘Alan Wake’ Fan Art

It’s Friday — also known as the absolute worst day of the week. The Evil Within has made today more bearable than most, but with a weekend’s worth of freedom ahead of many of us, it’d be understandable if you wished it were Monday. So if it helps soothe your nerves, I am totally willing to force you to check out this gorgeous Alan Wake fan art.

Oh, that would help? All right, just let me get my powdered wig on (I hear all authorities wear them), and… I’m all set. I order thou to clicketh that Read More link! You’re welcome.

[Modern Art] These Little Girls Are Absolutely Terrifying

I’ve known for some time now that little girls, or children in general, are terrifying creatures that simply aren’t to be trusted. It’s their soulless, beady eyes that gives them away. One look into those button sized black holes and you just know that an evil lurks on the other side. Artist Liran has done a fantastic job in crafting a gallery that’s brimming with surreal and unsettling horror art that I think will act as a terrific PSA for the harm children have on our society and specifically, our psyches.

All that’s really just a long winded way of saying you should definitely look at these pretty pictures.

[Modern Art] Give Your Home Some Freaky Flavor With These Incredible Horror Statues

Michael Locascio is the man behind those incredible Resident Evil statues, but that’s not all he can do, oh no sir. This guy has not one, but two Deviant Art galleries that are brimming all things macabre.

If you’re a gamer, geek, film buff, or some combination of the three, there’s an array of statues and busts from video games, comics and films to choose from. Not satisfied? HE KNEW YOU WOULDN’T BE. That’s why he came up with a slew of random freaky shit like spine candle holders! I’m sounding more and more like a salesperson, so let’s skip to the part where you click that Read More link and check out some of his work. Also, Michael, if you want to send me stuff, I’m okay with that.

No, These Creature Illustrations Aren’t ‘Silent Hill’ Concept Art

The Silent Hill franchise is known for its incredible monsters. Pyramid Head, the nurses, those damn freaky nightmare creatures from The Room that were basically torsos that walked on giant hands and had screaming heads mounted between big, broad shoulders. Yeah, fuck those.

I have some monster illustrations by Australian artist James Flaxman, and they’re disturbing — but in a good way. After the disappointing arsenal of creatures in Silent Hill: Downpour, I’m thinking it may be a good idea for Konami to bring on this guy so he can freshen things up a bit. If you’re ready to sleep with the lights on for a bit, check them out (beware, some are NSFW).

You Won’t Believe This Horror Art Was Done In Under An Hour

Deviant Artist Thomas (or ThoRCX) is crazy good at speed paintings. If I was given 30-40 minutes to craft something in Photoshop, nothing I created would be anywhere near the quality of his work. I imagine it’d be made up of a lot of smiley faces, squiggly lines, and maybe a poorly drawn unicorn, depending on my mood. If you don’t think unicorns are scary, than you obviously haven’t met one. They’re terrifying.

Unfortunately, there are no unicorns in Thomas’s work. The only horned beast he has is a freaky devil looking thing. Check out his work after the jump!

Horror Photographer Joshua Hoffine Takes Pictures That Look Good Enough To Eat

Today we’re going to take a break from horror art so we can take a gander at something a little more real. Joshua Hoffine is a photographer with a unique eye for the macabre. His photos are equal parts beautiful and grotesque, and looking through his gallery I can’t help but get the feeling that he really hates kids. Me too. You can see some of his work after the jump. Apparently, you can take photos without awkwardly placed, blurry thumbs taking up half the picture. I learn something new every day.

I Can’t Tell If This Art Is Terrifying Or Bizarre, You Decide

I hope you’re ready for more horrifying art, because I found some that is deeply unsettling and I just couldn’t bare another minute without sharing it. If you aren’t ready than I’m about to go full parental figure on you and just shove it down your throat like a nasty, slimy vegetable. I won’t even give you the option of eating the vegetable or going to your room, you’re going to eat these goddamned vegetables because I work nine hours a day only to come home and slave away over a hot stove – er sorry, I got carried away. Enjoy more twisted art, this time courtesy of Deviant Artist FriendlyFish, after the jump. I’m going to take a nap.

This Freaky Art Is Like Getting A Human Anatomy Lesson From Clive Barker

For the most part, I just sort of glided through my high school career on a current of B’s. There were two classes that caused me quite a bit of trouble though, and they were math (ick) and biology. One day, while I’m daydreaming in the latter, the teacher tells us we’re going to be dissecting fetal pigs. Having been an avid horror movie fan since the ripe age of six, I figured a dead pig wouldn’t be a problem. “What’s that organ?” the teacher would ask me. “Why, that’s very obviously the spleen, as I saw it dug out of that screaming camper in Friday the 13th.” Then the class would cheer my name and I’d be popular forever. Of course, that’s not how it went down. Between the smell that erupted out of that foul creature after it was opened up and my alarming inability to tell one organ from the other, I failed.

What I’m trying to say is if you’re anything like me, then you probably need to brush up on your anatomy skills. Thankfully, artist CheeseLoueez has people like us in mind with his trippy art that covers organs, skeletal structure, and Isaac Clarke. Yeah, he’s there too.

This Is, Without Question, Some Of The Most Stunning Horror Art I’ve Ever Seen

I don’t consider myself to be particularly knowledgeable of the art scene. I visit the MOMA here in San Francisco every now and then, but I’ll never understand the “hidden message” behind a pyramid of jeans that had been spray-painted black, which I stumbled across a couple years ago. It fascinated me, and I’m fairly certain it was some sort of statement for anti-commercialism, but because one of the great things about art is you get to take from it as little or as much as you want, I prefer to think the artist just really hated skinny-jeans. Me too, I thought to myself as I turned my attention to an orange rectangle painted on a white canvas hanging on the nearby wall, wondering if that too had a deeper message.

All that is a long-winded way of saying the art I’m about to show you has no hidden messages. It just looks insanely cool. It’s the sort of thing I want on my wall, my phone, and as my laptop’s wallpaper, just to guarantee that I can spend as much time looking at it and absorbing it as I possibly can. This is the work of Deviant Artist Chris Cold, who I’ve followed for several years now. It’s beautiful, haunting art that’s hard to turn away from. Feast your eyes on it after the break.

Beware, This Macabre Art Is The Stuff Of Nightmares

This isn’t necessarily video game related, though there is a chance this art could be concept art for a video game I’m not aware of, but Deviant Artist Christian Quinot, better known as cloudminedesign, is an artist I’ve watched for some time now. His work his grim and gorgeous, and varies between dark fantasy and terrifying images you’d expect from a particularly nasty nightmare. I love it, and I think you will too. I’ve handpicked some of my favorite works of his, but for the rest — and there’s a lot of it — I suggest checking out his Deviant Art portfolio.
