New Featurette Takes You To Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘House At The End Of The Street’

Relativity Media has released a new Jennifer Lawrence-centric featurette for Mark Tonderai’s House at the End of the Street, their PG-13 haunter starring Hunger Games‘ Jennifer Lawrence, alongside Elisabeth Shue, Max Thieriot and Gil Bellows.

In the film “Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared – leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah’s wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan – and the closer they get, the deeper they’re all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined.

If you’re a Lawrence fan, you’re invited to spend 41 seconds with her inside. READ MORE

First ‘House At the End of the Street’ Clip Jolts With A Fake Scare

Relativity Media has shared 5 new images from Mark Tonderai’s House at the End of the Street, their PG-13 haunter starring Hunger Games‘ Jennifer Lawrence, alongside Elisabeth Shue, Max Thieriot and Gil Bellows. In addition, the first clip has been released and pushes out a PG-13-esque fake scare.

In theaters September 21, the new imagery displays Lawrence and Shue in various “situations,” which aren’t clear. At this point I don’t think it’s a far reach to think that Relativity is hoping to sell the movie using Lawrence (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

In theaters November 22, 2013 from Lionsgate and director Francis Lawrence, the sequel continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Third ‘House At The End Of The Street’ Trailer Echoes ‘Psycho’, Finally Grabs Our Attention…

Relativity Media dropped the ball with the first two trailers for Mark Tonderai’s House at the End of the Street, their PG-13 haunter starring Hunger Games‘ Jennifer Lawrence, alongside Elisabeth Shue, Max Thieriot and Gil Bellows.

In theaters September 21, the latest attempt finally gets it right as they share the dynamic between the characters Elissa (Lawrence) and Ryan (Thieriot), as well as teasing the film’s biggest drawing point… that Ryan talks to his dead mother’s spirit (and asks her to leave Elissa alone). It taps into Psycho, which leads me to believe we’ll find out Ryan has a split personality. Either way, this trailer has finally sold me. What say you?

Philip Seymour Hoffman Becomes Head Gamemaker For ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

Philip Seymour Hoffman has officially been cast in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Plutarch Heavensbee, head gamemaker for The Hunger Games, says Variety.

The studio signed Francis Lawrence to direct Catching Fire in early May. Lionsgate is planning to shoot the movie starting in the fall for a November 22, 2013 release date.

Suzanne Collins’ “Catching Fire” story features a special edition of the Hunger Games every quarter-century in which tributes are “reaped” from the victors of past games. Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is crafting the “Fire” script.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, and Woody Harrelson will return in their roles. The film will be produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force with producer Jon Kilik.

Lionsgate has not set the release dates for the final two films in the franchise, based on the concluding “Mockingjay” tome in Collins’ trilogy.

Jena Malone Will Be ‘Catching Fire’

Last week there were reports that Jena Malone (pictured above; Sucker Punch, The Ruins) was in the running for the pivotal role of strong-willed tribute Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and now it’s been confirmed despite some last minute reporting to the contrary.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Malone has the offer and is in early negotiations for the part, according to sources. The move nixes premature reports that pegged newbie actress-model Zoe Aggeliki as the front-runner to play the ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7.” The character is described in author Suzanne Collins’ bestseller as possessing “a wicked ability to murder,” winning her Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes.

As previously reported, Francis Lawrence will be taking the directing reigns from Gary Ross on the sequel. It starts filming in late September and is due in theaters November 22nd, 2013.

While rampant speculation on who is or is not in the running for the role of “Finnick Odair” in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continues to set the Internet ablaze, producers have reportedly made their first offer for another pivotal role in the sequel.

Plutarch is a far savvier political animal than his predecessor, and he plays a crucial role in the events of Catching Fire.

‘The Hunger Games’ Sequel ‘Catching Fire’ Needs A New Director

CatchingFire40612 The Hunger Games Sequel Catching Fire Needs A New Director

I really liked The Hunger Games and am hoping that it could be the next big film franchise. If we need these behemoth cash cows they should at least be halfway decent, right? So it’s sort of concerning to hear that Games director Gary Ross has dropped out of directing the sequel, Catching Fire.

Per Indiewire, “Gary Ross has officially exited the franchise and will not direct the sequel, formally giving Lionsgate and Summit his notice earlier this week, that he will not be coming back. Though recent trade reports have spun the story as being an issue mostly about money, that’s pretty much a small part of the motivation. Ross has never been a filmmaker that repeats himself (going from satire in “Pleasantville” to horse racing drama in “Seabiscuit” and action in “The Hunger Games”) and we’re told the burning desire simply isn’t there to spend another couple of years with Katniss in the Capitol (evidently, he also liked the first book best).

*Update – Deadline is now reporting that the director may not be off the project after all. They’re “hearing from multiple sources close to Catching Fire that director Gary Ross has not formally withdrawn from The Hunger Games sequel.” I suspect we’ll see all of this shake out next week. Either he’ll be on, or there will be a mad race for a new helmer.

I haven’t read the books, so I wasn’t aware of any perceived drop off in quality in the second two installments. But apparently a lot of people feel that way. What concerns me is that the original has now made so much money that the studio may go with a cheaper, less seasoned helmer in an effort to get Fire into theaters as quickly (and with as little turbulence) as possible.

Director Mark Tonderai Talks Suspense, Hitchcock and House at the End of the Street

Relativity unveiled the official trailer to the Mark Tonderai-directed House at the End of the Street yesterday. Needless to say, since this is now “the new Jennifer Lawrence movie”, it cause quite a stir.

I had been traveling all day Wednesday and Thursday and I hadn’t yet been able to see the new trailer, but I was still eager to talk with director Mark Tonderai about his film – so when I had the chance to talk with him between flights, I took the call . Luckily for me, I found that I didn’t have to do too much grilling. Tonderai is so passionate about what he does that we were able to have a fairly free flowing conversation about his film, but also about film and the industry in general.

The PG-13 horror flick opening September 26 “centers on a teen girl (Lawrence) who moves with her mom to a new town and learns that their home is across the street from a house where a double murder took place. Complications ensue when the teen befriends the massacre’s sole surviving son (Max Thieriot). Elisabeth Shue costars as Lawrence’s mom.
