4. WTF, Renfield Waaauuggh, Renfield’s creepy laugh in the 1931 Dracula!
I don’t even! Plus, actor Dwight Frye looks like he’s about to crawl right out of the screen, Ringu style. (Two notable runner-ups in the creepy laugh category both hail from the Land o’ Lynch: the sick, malevolent chortle of the Eraserhead baby when it’s mocking Henry, which (thankfully?) I couldn’t easily find a clip of, and Bob’s warped guffaws in the final Black Lodge sequence from Twin Peaks. Honorable mentions: demonic Regan from The Exorcist, Calder after he gets possessed in Prince of Darkness (more from that flick in a moment), and the perverse titter of the infamous Max Headroom hacker, circa 1987.)
