Smashing Pumpkins – Monuments to an Elegy
I’ve been a huge Pumpkins fan ever since I picked up Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness way back in 1995 (coincidentally my first ever CD). And while the band’s glory days ended back in 2000, I still have a soft spot for Billy Corgan’s work (though even I’ll admit that his solo album was weak). With their latest album, Monuments To An Elegy, Corgan’s continued to evolve the band’s sound. And while there aren’t hits like “Tonight, Tonight”, “Cherub Rock” or “1979”, “Drum + Fife” is one of the songs that grows on you as you listen to it. Backed by Tommy Lee’s drums, Corgan layers guitars with hints of the space-rock sound of Oceania and continues to have a more mellow sound.
