Mark my words, Nothing More is going to explode in 2015. These guys write incredibly powerful heavy alt-rock and they aren’t afraid to tackle difficult topics in their lyrics. Just listen to “Christ Copyright” or “Mr. MTV” to see what I’m talking about.
Chevelle – La Gárgola
If you think that this is too mainstream for this list, fine, whatever. But I’m here to tell you that these guys released one of the best mainstream hard rock albums of the year. Full of catchy, infectious, badass tracks, this album is insane amounts of fun.
The Birthday Massacre – Superstition
I have no shame in admitting just how much I love this group. It’s poppy, it’s upbeat, and it puts me in a good mood every time I listen to them. I was a huge fan of Hide And Seek and any new album from this group is a welcome addition to my library.
Opeth – Pale Communion
Opeth is one of those bands whose discography is a wondrous journey, one that fully hints at what’s to come and yet consistently delights and surprises. Pale Communion was, in my opinion, a much stronger album than Heritage, taking their artistic progressive rock elements and furthering them into some absolute gems.
Dir En Grey – Arche
The latest album on this list, it still deserves a spot here. Dir En Grey have always been known to evolve and change, each album offering something new and Arche is no different. What I love about this album is just how diverse and textured it is, going from heavy to ballads, often side-by-side.
