Big Fish
Tim Burton, I feel, has lost his way. His past several films just don’t seem to have any heart behind them. Admittedly, I haven’t seen Big Eyes, so I can’t talk about that, but Alice In Wonderland was a boring mess, Corpse Bride did nothing for me, Sweeney Todd literally put me to sleep, and should we even talk about Dark Shadows? Remember that these movies were from the same director as Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow, so there’s a definite sting when thinking about his career.
In my opinion, Big Fish stands out as Burton’s last great film. It had the trademark quirkiness and unique style of his previous films, not to mention a great score from Danny Elfman, but it had a far wider appeal. It’s one of those heartwarming epic movies that actually takes you on a journey, one that is full of wonder.
