2. It
One of the few books to ever scare the crap out of me, It is phenomenal. While it’s definitely a long read, you’ll never find yourself checking to see how many pages you have left to go. It’s just that good. I prefer the parts that take place in the 50s, but the parts with the adults is still compelling. King has always been at his best when he’s writing about growing up, and It is probably that theme at its best. Most people may remember It because of the ABC mini-series (which is fine, even if the second half is lackluster), but the novel is where it’s at. If you’ve got some time to spare over the summer, give it a read. Or at least try to read it before the new adaptation comes out!
