3. Cabin Fever
Roth’s first film still holds up today. It’s a little ridiculous, but it showed Roth at his most playful). From the opening scene where an old man gets blood sprayed in his eye from the empty cavity of a dog, it’s clear we’re in for a fun ride. Jordan Ladd’s death (and the fingering scene) still stand out as the major set-pieces of the film (an argument can be made for “pancakes,” but let’s just forget that scene exists). Cabin Fever is a popcorn movie through and through. It doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. While it’s not an amazing film by any means, it’s one of Roth’s better efforts (and at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is his best reviewed film).
