There is no contest here. Carpenter’s score is perfect. Zombie was faced with a difficult choice: re-use the iconic 1978 score or have Tyler Bates compose a new one. He chose the former (though still used Bates to remix some of the original music). That choice proves to be ill-advised, as all it does is remind you of the same scenes that were better in the original. This may have been the studio’s choice over Zombie’s, but it still doesn’t make it right.
