Lately, I’ve been rekindling my love of The Haunted, the Swedish melodic metal group that was borne out of the ashes of At The Gates. I’m a huge fan of the Peter Dolving-era, especially The Dead Eye, which I would probably place in my top 10 albums thanks to its marriage of brilliant lyrics, heavy yet groovy music, and surprising accessibility.
However, for this edition of Twisted Music Video of the Week, I’m turning to their 2008 album Versus and their track “Trenches”. Directed by Daniel Larsson, the video tells the tale of a nefarious shopowner who sells a young lady some plant seeds that upon taking root begin to grow into something sinister and deadly. Mixing equal parts of Resident Evil 1 with Little Shop of Horrors and perhaps a healthy dose of Lovecraftian tendrils, the video takes the idea of humanity vs. nature to a new level.
