9. Pete Walker Collection Volume 2 (Kink Lorber/Redemption Films)
Pete Walker has always felt incredibly underrated to me. It’s quite possible that just my friends don’t know about Walker. Whatever the case may be I don’t hear Walker’s name come up enough when discussing great horror directors and that’s a shame. Over the course of his career Walker directed a number of great horror films and Kino Lorber and Redemption Films have collected 6 of them on The Peter Walker Blu-ray Collection Volume 2.
This set would probably rank a bit higher but it’s another cheat of sorts so it comes in at 9. Like the Fulci and Argento sets from Blue Underground, this Walker set features some films (Frightmare, The Blood and Flesh Show, House of Mortal Sin, Home Before Midnight) that have already been released individually by Redemption. These are just straight re-issues, so there’s nothing new in regards to those films. With that said there are two films, The Big Switch and Man of Violence, that are only available as part of this set. It’s those two new additions that earn this set a place on this list.
Despite this being the second of the Walker collections I think this set is the perfect introduction to Walker as a filmmaker. It includes what I consider to be his best films in Frightmare and the Flesh and Blood Show, plus it offers a bit more variety and shows the range he possesses as a director. This is definitely a set that genre fans are going to want to have in their collection.
