6. Stray Cat Rock: The Collection (Arrow)
We all knew Arrow was going to make it onto this list, right? Stray Cat Rock: The Collection is their first entry and spoiler alert, it won’t be their last!
The Stray Cat Rock series stars the lovely Meiko Kaji (Lady Snowblood, Blind Woman’s Curse) and is what essentially launched her into the badass action queen that she became. The five films in the set (Delinquent Girl Boss, Wild Jumbo, Sex Hunter, Machine Animal and Beat ’71) were directed by Yasuharu Hasebe and Toshiya Fujita and feature a crazy combination of bikers, drugs, rock and roll and girl gangs. They’re sort of like Jack Hill films on LSD with Brian DePalma serving as editor. Like all Arrow releases this set comes loaded with special features including a variety of interviews with Hasebe and stars Tatsuya Fuji and Yoshio Harada. Wonderful set from start to finish.
