In case you didn’t know, creature features are sort of a passion of mine. Many times, creature features (or “natural horror films,” as the are also known) take the B-movie route and favor schlock over scares. This isn’t always the case, so we thought we’d share some horror movie animals that actually scared us!
Rabid St. Bernard – Cujo
Leave it to Stephen King to make man’s best friend on of horror’s most terrifying animals. Poor Cujo didn’t do anything wrong either. He just wanted to chase a rabbit but ended up getting bitten by a rabid bat. Lewis Teague did a commendable job adapting King’s novel for film, with Dee Wallace giving an excellent performance as a mother desperate to protect her child. The real star of the show is Cujo. Whether being played by a real dog or a puppet, he has an air of menace surrounding him that has yet to be matched by any canine ever put on screen since.
