Snakes – Anaconda, Silent Predators, etc.
Is there an animal that scares people more than snakes do? Featured in tons of films, the most notable of which being Luis Llosa’s 1997 B-movie Anaconda, snakes are just creepy little critters. I’ll save my defense of that gem for a later post (seriously though, Anaconda is awesome), but anyone with ophidiophobia should steer clear of any films featuring this legless baddie. On a related note, there was this made-for-TBS movie in the late 90s starring Harry Hamlin called Silent Predators (which was co-written by John Carpenter!) that featured a bunch of rattlesnakes (kind of an oxymoron to call a rattlesnake “silent,” isn’t it?) terrorizing a small town. It probably hasn’t aged well, but I remember it freaking me out when I watched it at my grandmother’s country home in Louisiana. Does anyone remember that one?
