The Gift (STX Entertainment)
One of the best trailers of the year was for Joel Edgerton’s creepy The Gift, which turned out to also be one of the most intense and provocative thrillers in years. Edgerton also wrote and stars in the movie as a stalker, who is creating chaos for Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall’s characters. His performance had me on edge for the entirety of the picture, and his screenplay is close to perfection. The Gift has a classic 80’s vibe in the vein of something like Pacific Heights, and delivers quite a punch from start to finish. If you haven’t already, unwrap this gift immediately.
