Turbo Kid
TURBO KID was slated to be the letter “T” in the first ABC’s OF DEATH and I’m glad it didn’t make it because the feature length version may have never come to be. From 3 French Canadian’s known as RKSS (Roadkill Super Stars) and the mind behind HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN as executive producer comes an homage to rise above all others.
The Kid (Munroe Chambers) is alone in the desolate land with nothing but his rad music and comic books to keep him company. That is until he meets the manic pixie girl of his dreams…er…comics, Apple (Laurence Leboeuf) and decides to fight the evil ruler Zeus (Michael Ironside).
There are a lot of nods to flicks of dystopian past but I’ll let you pick them out yourselves. This indie picture churns out some heartfelt performances, in particular, Leboeuf who keeps the audience in a trance waiting for the next hilariously inappropriate thing to come spilling out of her mouth.
RKSS has shown that they really know how to work a genre and love the process of filmmaking itself. Not a single shot or drop of blood (and there’s a lot) is wasted.
