Meeting the Merchant – Resident Evil 4
This moment is memorable for an entirely different reason, for it is the moment that gifted us with one of gaming’s best and most elusive characters: the Merchant.
You don’t need me to tell you why this moment is so great; it’s a universal truth, like science stuff. In addition to being one of my spirit animals, the Merchant is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, garbed in a flasher’s trench coat which he uses to carry around all the things that are known to bring the average Texan to an explosive orgasm. More than that, everything he says is quotable. I’m still not convinced he isn’t just three boys in a man costume.
When Leon meets him, he’d only just begun what was, until 2012, the worst day of his life. Then the Merchant strolls into his life, says some words you’ve definitely seen plastered in big bold letters over a picture of him giving a thumbs up, or whatever, and that’s the moment you know everything’s going to be okay. Forget Leon, the Merchant is the real hero in this game.
And don’t you just want to swim in those eyes?
