4. Event Horizon (1997)
Not generally thought of as a haunting/ possession film because the sci-fi elements overshadow everything, but just replace the ship with a house and you have a classic haunted house/ possession story. The sci-fi horror genre is dominated by “Alien,” and rightly so, but I would rate this film as second in that category. The special effects still hold up today, which is odd for a movie from the ’90s. The only other movie that had timeless effects such as this was “Blade Runner.” There are moments and images in this film that are truly disturbing, especially the scenes of the video that explains what happened to the crew of the “Event Horizon.”
