Two Forgotten Jess Franco Films Come to Blu-ray!

Published

on

Dorado Films is a name people may not be super familiar with but they’re a company that has been around a very long time. They own the rights to thousands of different films in a number of different genres with a heavy focus on European films – westerns, Eurocrime, horror, etc. Typically they license their films out to other companies to release on home video. Earlier this year they licensed Lucio Fulci’s A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin to Mondo Macabro for example. Now they’re getting into releasing Blu-rays themselves.

Their first release is a double feature of Jess Franco films – The Sinister Eyes of Dr. Orloff and The Silence of the Tomb. The release is currently available for pre-order which runs until October 23, 2016. The pre-order is important because this gives you a chance to snag either an Ultimate Edition or Collector’s Edition of the release. The Ultimate Edition is limited to 1,500 copies and each copy is hand numbered and comes with a special booklet. At the time of this writing 1,435 copies of the Ultimate Edition are still available.

The Collector’s Edition contains the same disc content as the Ultimate Edition but they are not numbered and do not come with the booklet. Copies of the Collector’s Edition are unlimited but must be pre-ordered during the pre-sale. Both the Ultimate and Collector’s Edition are available for $30 plus shipping.

At this time there is no indication as to what bonus content will be included but all indications are that Dorado Films is planning to load this double feature up. They seem to have done their research in determining what people like and I’d guess their relationship with companies like Mondo Macabro probably helps them know what consumers are interested in.

Even without knowing the bonus features, I think most fans of Jess Franco would consider this a deal. Two Franco films on one region free Blu-ray set for $30? Yes, please! More importantly though, this could be the start of something special with Dorado Films. Their library is vast and if this first Blu-ray release goes well, we could see a lot more titles making their debut on Blu-ray very soon!

ollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story

The SCREAMBOX Original documentary Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is now streaming on SCREAMBOX, and it’s next coming to VHS!

A limited edition of only 50 copies worldwide, the VHS copies of the Englund documentary will go up for grabs on Saturday, April 27 at 12pm EST on Lunchmeat’s official website.

Josh Schafer of Lunchmeat explains, “With so many of Englund’s works being seen and familiarized on videotape, it only felt right to offer fans and collectors the opportunity to experience this fantastic doc on VHS. We all know the Freddy movies just feel different on videocassette, and we wanted to bring that feel to this film for those who want it.”

“Since first donning a tattered fedora and a glove of eviscerating blades in 1984, Robert Englund has become a beloved horror icon. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger is without doubt a moment as visceral to the horror genre as Chaney’s werewolf or Karloff’s groundbreaking realization of Frankenstein’s monster. However, few realize the depths of Englund’s true power as a character actor away from the latex mask and iconic red and green sweater.

“A classically trained actor and director, Robert Englund has become one of the most revolutionary horror icons of our generation.. This unique and intimate portrait captures the man behind the glove and features interviews with Englund and his wife Nancy, Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Tony Todd, Heather Langenkamp, and more.

“This is the quintessential documentary on the man who didn’t just bring Freddy Krueger to horrific and historic life on-screen and beyond, but has created a fantastic career as an elite actor and entertainer.”

Selling for $30, the VHS is presented in native widescreen format & duplicated in NTSC, housed in full-color slipcase and pressed on black videocassettes with silver foil face and side labels.

The VHS release is presented in partnership with Cineverse, Bloody Disgusting, and Screambox, in association with Dead Mouse Productions and Cult Screenings U.K.
