Marcin Wrona’s ‘Demon’ Gets an Unsettling Trailer
The Jewish horror tale Demon is something we’ve been covering for over a year, intrigued by its supposedly original take on the dybbuk mythology. Our own Trace says that he loved it until its ambiguous ending in his review. To get a taste of it for yourself, I highly recommend you watch the trailer below. It’s got an absolutely delicious atmosphere pervading across every frame.
Newly arrived from England to marry his fiancee Zaneta, Peter has been given a gift of her family’s ramshackle country house in rural Poland. It’s a total fixer-upper, and while inspecting the premises on the eve of the wedding, he falls into a pile of human remains. The ceremony proceeds, but strange things begin to happen… During the wild reception, Peter begins to come undone, and a dybbuk, the iconic ancient figure from Jewish folklore, takes a toehold in this present-day celebration-for a very particular reason, as it turns out.
Demon was directed by Marcin Wrona, who tragically passed away last September.
Starring Itay Tira, Agnieszka Żulewska, and Andrzej Grabowski, the film is being released on September 9th.

Monkey Man is currently 88% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with Bloody Disgusting’s head critic Meagan Navarro awarding the film 4.5/5 stars in her review out of SXSW back in March.
Meagan raves, “While the violence onscreen is palpable and painful, it’s not just the exquisite fight choreography and thrilling action set pieces that set Monkey Man apart but also its political consciousness, unique narrative structure, and myth-making scale.”

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
