[Exclusive] ‘Death House’ Director Harrison Smith is Next Directing ‘The Special’; “Fatal Attraction Meets The Blob”

His Death House, dubbed “The Expendables of Horror,” is now finally available on VOD outlets (DVD/Blu-ray on December 11), and Bloody Disgusting has learned that director Harrison Smith‘s next project is already lined up. Being described as “Fatal Attraction meets The Blob,” principal photography kicks off this January on Smith’s The Special.

Principal photography is set for a January 21st start in Pennsylvania.

The Special tells the story of Jerry, who confides in his best friend Mike that his wife is having an affair. This sets off a chain of events that will take them to a dark place on the edge of town, and a night of pleasure beyond Jerry’s wildest imagination. But everything has its price, and once you’ve experienced The Special… Nothing else can compare.

It’s a bit on the bizarre side but once the audience accepts what the addicted Jerry is going through, it’s a wild ride. There is an underlying sense of fun to this,” Smith teases. “There’s a lot of sex… The whole thing is about sex and in some way it’s a fucked version of Fatal Attraction which, was itself, a social horror movie about the pitfalls of addiction. This is a contained horror film relying on the strength of its cast and the artistry behind the camera.”

Starring Damian Maffei (The Strangers Prey at Night, Haunt), Davy Raphaely, and Sara French with the all practical Special F/X by Roy Knyrim’s SOTA FX (Insidious 4, Sinister, Gods and Monsters), The Special was written by Mark Steensland and James Newman.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
