ScreenDaily reports that Lionsgate has acquired US rights to the thriller The Doorman, which stars The Meg and Resident Evil‘s Ruby Rose alongside Jean Reno. Japanese director Ryûhei Kitamura (Versus, Midnight Meat Train) is currently behind the camera as the film is being sold at Cannes.
“Rose plays a former Marine officer who gets a job as the doorman at a labyrinthine New York apartment.
“Her efforts to live out a peaceful life are shattered when the building comes under attack from mercenaries hell-bent on finding valuable art hidden in the walls.”
Kitamura is the Japanese director behind the ultraviolent horror films Versus, Alive, The Midnight Meat Train, No One Lives, and last year’s insane Downrange.
Harry Winer of Smash Media, Moring, Michael Philip, Phin Glynn, Sara Shaak, and Shayne Putzlocher are producing.
The Doorman has gone to France (Mediawan), Germany and Benelux (Splendid), Spain (Avalon), Japan (Genco), Eastern Europe (SPI International), Indonesia (Prima Cinema), Middle East (Eagle Films), and pan Asia (Pay TV Fox).
