We told you back in December of last year that Johannes Roberts (The Strangers: Prey at Night, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged) is directing a feature film reboot of the Resident Evil franchise for Constantin Film, with plans on making a straight-up horror movie that’ll have no connection to the Milla Jovovich-led action-horror franchise that came to an end back in 2017.
What’s the latest on that? Well the good news is that the movie is still happening! Roberts updated on the status of the project in a chat with Screen Rant over the weekend.
“We are in active development of that at the moment,” Roberts told the site. “I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great.”
Roberts added, “It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game.”
Hardcore fans of the Resident Evil games have been begging for a “super scary” film adaptation for many years now, and it sounds like Roberts may be the right man for the job.
