[Image] Did Dani and Christian from ‘Midsommar’ Appear in ‘Hereditary’ One Year Prior?!

Published

It was recently pointed out that there are creepy faces hiding within the trees in Midsommar, but Ari Aster‘s wildest Easter egg may be found in his debut feature, Hereditary.

Film writer Brad Hanson has taken to Twitter today and pointed out a compelling screen-grab that suggests maybe, just maybe, Aster’s main characters from Midsommar actually appeared on screen one year prior in Hereditary. At the 1:01:12 mark in Hereditary, Toni Collette’s Annie walks out of Joel’s Art Supplies, and a young couple walks into frame right past her.

As Brad notes, the young couple looks strikingly similar to Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor), the couple we’d end up meeting this year in Midsommar!

Which begs the question: did Aster know what his Midsommar couple was going to look like well in advance (Hereditary was filmed well before Midsommar was), or did he intentionally model them after a couple of extras from Hereditary as a fun way of tying the films together into a shared universe? Of course, option C is way less interesting: this is pure coincidence.

Then again, is anything really mere coincidence in the world of Ari Aster…?
