I really can’t say enough about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Developer Climax Studios did a lot of cool things with this game, which is an impressive first attempt at making a Silent Hill game. These are tough to get right, and they did a swell job of it. It repetitive and its repertoire of baddies is underwhelming, especially for this series, but the psychological profiling that adapts the game to mess with your head is so f**king cool. Play this. You won’t leave disappointed.
I know this isn’t the most acclaimed horror games out there, but I enjoyed it a fair amount. I also really wanted to include a game that Nintendo fans can get on, because I fear I don’t give them the love they deserve. Cursed Mountain is one of the many horror games that came to the Wii (and later the PC) back when Nintendo’s console was enjoying spectacular sales. It’s set in the 80’s, where you step in the snowboots of Eric Simmons, who decides to climb a mountain in search of his missing brother. It’s creepy and touches on themes that aren’t often used, like a liberal amount of freaky Buddhism and Tibetan folklore.
