5 Reasons to Be Excited for ‘Silent Hills’

Guillermo Del Toro

SHS_1

I loved me some Silent Hill: Downpour. It was a solid attempt to reinvigorate the franchise with an open-world approach to what had largely been a mostly linear series. Unfortunately, the area where the game fell woefully short was in its cast of monsters. Now, for some horror games this would be a big deal, but it wouldn’t necessarily ruin the game. But an error like that in a Silent Hill? It was devastating.

Enter Guillermo Del Toro, the dude that brought us this. And I suppose it’d be a shame if we forgot about this.

Del Toro is, in my humble opinion, one of the most visually inventive filmmakers out there. He knows how to make a good movie, as he’s proved over and over again with films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, he’s a fan of horror (he most recently brought us The Strain, which is pretty fantastic), and he’s wanted to dive into video games for some time now. While there will always be an InSANE shaped hole in my heart, I’m more excited for his involvement with Silent Hills than I ever could’ve been for that prematurely canned trilogy.

The reason I’m giving this guy his own point is similar to the reason I’m about to give Kojima his. Del Toro brings a lot to the table, and his particular set of skills will make him a nightmare for people like us — but in a good way. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
