Haunted House: Cryptic Graves
Of the two games Atari announced “reimaginings” of back in August, Haunted House: Cryptic Graves would’ve ranked second, in terms of my personal level of anticipation for it, under Alone in the Dark: Illumination. So when this game turned out to be woefully undercooked, the only thing it succeeded in doing — aside from wasting what precious little time I have to play games anymore — was make me worry about how Illumination will turn out.
Cryptic Graves is boring. It’s that simple. It has nothing to offer outside of some spooky atmosphere. The rest is a jumble of ideas, concepts and mechanics that never find a home. It’s an incoherent mess that I’d barely qualify as a video game, if only because it offers no escapism or entertainment value whatsoever.
