4. Engraving depicting the execution of Sir Thomas Armstrong in 1684
I don’t know who the artist that did this engraving is, but it is absolutely brutal. Being drawn and quartered seemed like such an absurdly overdone method of execution, but perhaps that was the point, given the large audience in attendance to witness the punishment for high treason at that time. A deterrent indeed.
