Bloodborne
If you haven’t gotten around to playing Bloodborne by now, I’m going to assume you haven’t done so because you’re either not at all interested in what it has to offer, or because its Lovecraftian brand of horror frightens you to your core.
It might seem like more of the same, but that’s only true on an extremely superficial level. It wouldn’t work nearly as well as it does if the team behind it hadn’t used three games — Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II — to reinforce the foundation it was built upon.
Bloodborne is an amalgam of every little detail, mechanic and quirk that’s made gamers either love or hate this series. That such a complex and nightmarish work of interactive art could exist is astounding. It may qualify as a miracle when the fifth game, Dark Souls III, arrives in April.
