Pyramid Head is arguably the most recognizable creature the Silent Hill franchise has produced, but his legacy has always felt manufactured to me. He is absolutely one of the best things about the brilliant game that introduced us to him, but his career post-Silent Hill 2 has often felt forced and sometimes even unnecessary, sort of like every music video PSY has released since “Gangnam Style”.
The real star is the Nurse because she takes a universal symbol of life and healing, and twists it into something horrific and dangerous. It makes perfect sense that she would be a favorite among cosplayers, since she’s essentially a blank canvas. Anyone can combine a dirty nurse costume with some bandages, fake blood and a weapon. From there, it’s all about the details.
