Ally McBeal In The Woods / The Worst TV Slasher EVER
For the last few weeks, Trace and I have covered controversial and widely-maligned slasher sequel Seed of Chucky, the horror of menstruation in Ginger Snaps and the heavily queer coded Demon Knight. To wrap up our six week Summer of Franchises block, we collected Brian Particelli to explore David E. Kelley’s laugh-heavy, scare lite Aquatic Horror entry Lake Placid…
…and then Scream: Resurrection – and THAT ending – happened, and we knew that we had to talk about it.
And so, it was a two episode week on Horror Queers!

Episode 28 – Lake Placid (1999)
For the final entry in the Summer of Franchises, the boys grab Brian Particelli for a camping weekend at Black Lake. There they discover misogyny, bears and a profane Betty White…because they are firmly ensconced in a rom-com masquerading as a creature feature, written by none other than David E. Kelley.
The boys attempt to break down the comedy to scares ratio (1:0), play the Hollywood spouse game (because Brian knows EVERYTHING) and Joe even tries out a few bad impersonations. Also on the menu: a queer reading of Hector & Hank, a deep appreciation of Bridget Fonda aka “Willie”, swapping Pullman for Paxton and an inability to keep any of the characters’ names straight.

Episode 29 – Scream: Resurrection (2019)
SPOILER ALERT: We are spoiling the entire six episodes, but as Joe says in the intro, it is SO BAD that we don’t recommend anyone watch. Just listen to us instead.
In this special episode, the boys swing by Atlanta to check the latest TV iteration of Ghostface and the Scream franchise. Alas, the “Deadfast Club” proves to be as uninspired as their attempts at metatextuality. This series has virtually nothing to offer, only bad writing, bad acting, terrible pacing, and lackluster kills. Plus: the killer reveal is one of the most offensive insults to horror fans in quite some time.
